ECE R90 regulations require all brake pads manufactured for the aftermarket and sold within the E.U and other countries for vehicles manufactured after this date must comply with R90 standards.

In order to meet these standards the brake pad must be put through a series of tests and pass. These include hot and cold performance tests and heating procedures. 

Once passed, these pads can be confidently sold in the market place by the manufacturer knowing they perform as well and as safely as the original equipment.

Pads that have passed ECE 90 testing will have an "E" mark on the back with a number next to it. This number denotes which approval authority has tested and approved the pad.
